Episode 49 – My Phases of the Rut

What up folks? Today’s episode is all about our theories on the rut phases. Although we have a bit of fun with the names and such, the info itself is my feelings on the topic and timings (as of today that is…).

BuckFight

My list of the phases are:

  • Phase 1 – What are you doing here?
  • Phase 2 – Looks different around here.
  • Phase 3 – Where da women at?
  • Phase 4 – The “Rut-cation”.
  • Phase 5 – Last call.
  • Phase 6 – Late Season.
  • Phase 7 – Damn it!

Have fun with this one!

Episode 48 – After the Shot

Today’s episode is courtesy of a listener. I promised him I would do this episode 2 years ago and never did so now I am making good on my promise. Thank you Dan for the suggestion.

This episode is going to cover the following:

  • Paying attention after the initial shot
  • What to do when you see the deer go down or if you don’t!
  • Distinguishing between the various types of shots including Muscle, Shoulder, Gut, Liver, Lungs and Heart.
  • Identifying the shot from the blood on the arrow
  • Amount of time to wait for each scenario
  • Blood Trailing
  • Finding and resuming from a lost blood trail
  • Not giving up

Many people attempt heart shots. Look at this picture above. There is a small margin of error for a heart shot. Be conservative and aim for a double lung shot. Much more real estate to take advantage of.

My arrow stuck into the tree in the center of the picture. That tree was 12 yards from me. The doe was standing broadside in front of that tree when I shot.
