2015 has been a year that has been leaving hunters shaking their heads wondering why their deer encounters have been down. This week we will be talking about changing your tactics to increase your deer sighting and opportunities.
What up folks? Today’s episode is all about our theories on the rut phases. Although we have a bit of fun with the names and such, the info itself is my feelings on the topic and timings (as of today that is…).
Today’s episode is courtesy of a listener. I promised him I would do this episode 2 years ago and never did so now I am making good on my promise. Thank you Dan for the suggestion.
This episode is going to cover the following:
Paying attention after the initial shot
What to do when you see the deer go down or if you don’t!
Distinguishing between the various types of shots including Muscle, Shoulder, Gut, Liver, Lungs and Heart.
Identifying the shot from the blood on the arrow
Amount of time to wait for each scenario
Finding and resuming from a lost blood trail
Not giving up
Many people attempt heart shots. Look at this picture above. There is a small margin of error for a heart shot. Be conservative and aim for a double lung shot. Much more real estate to take advantage of.
This is the look from the ground position I took up when I shot the doe.
My arrow stuck into the tree in the center of the picture. That tree was 12 yards from me. The doe was standing broadside in front of that tree when I shot.
